Our Safety Standard.

The WE-COLLECT Courier Safety Code sets out the basic safety, conduct and compliance standards expected from couriers working with or representing WE-COLLECT.

It is designed to protect customers, restaurants, couriers, pedestrians, road users and the wider Brighton community.

1. Safety Comes First.

WE-COLLECT expects every courier to put safety before speed, convenience or earnings.

No delivery is more important than public safety, courier safety or legal road use.

  • Ride or drive safely at all times.
  • Follow the Highway Code.
  • Respect pedestrians, cyclists, drivers and public spaces.
  • Never take unnecessary risks to complete a collection or delivery.

2. Legal Road Use.

Couriers must use roads, cycle lanes and public spaces lawfully and responsibly.

  • Stop at red lights.
  • Do not ride on pavements unless legally permitted.
  • Do not ride against traffic.
  • Use lights when visibility is poor or when required.
  • Use safe road positioning.
  • Give pedestrians priority where required.
  • Do not block crossings, doorways, roads or business entrances.

3. E-Bike, Bicycle And Vehicle Safety.

Couriers must make sure their bike, e-bike, scooter, motorcycle or vehicle is safe, legal and suitable for delivery work.

  • Brakes must work properly.
  • Tyres must be safe and roadworthy.
  • Lights and reflectors must be used where needed.
  • Batteries and chargers must be used safely.
  • E-bikes must meet UK legal requirements.
  • Vehicles must be insured, taxed and roadworthy where required.

4. No Dangerous Riding Or Driving.

Dangerous, aggressive or careless behaviour is not acceptable.

  • No red-light jumping.
  • No pavement riding where not permitted.
  • No unsafe overtaking.
  • No weaving through pedestrians.
  • No racing other riders or vehicles.
  • No intimidating customers, staff or members of the public.
  • No riding or driving while impaired by alcohol, drugs, tiredness or distraction.

5. Phone And Navigation Safety.

Couriers must use phones and navigation safely.

  • Do not type, scroll or read messages while moving.
  • Stop safely before checking directions.
  • Use hands-free navigation where appropriate and legal.
  • Do not let delivery apps distract from road awareness.
  • Never prioritise phone alerts over safety.

6. Food Bag And Order Handling.

Couriers must handle customer orders carefully, hygienically and professionally.

  • Use a clean insulated delivery bag where needed.
  • Keep food upright and secure.
  • Avoid spills, crushing or contamination.
  • Do not open sealed food packaging.
  • Keep hot and cold items separated where practical.
  • Report damaged, leaking or unsafe orders.

7. Customer And Business Conduct.

Couriers represent WE-COLLECT when collecting from businesses and handing orders to customers.

  • Be polite and respectful.
  • Follow reasonable business collection instructions.
  • Do not argue with restaurant staff, customers or the public.
  • Respect customer privacy and property.
  • Do not share customer addresses or personal information.
  • Report problems calmly and accurately.

8. Documents, Insurance And Eligibility.

Couriers may be asked to provide information or documents needed to confirm suitability, safety and compliance.

  • Right-to-work information where required.
  • Proof of age where required.
  • Insurance details where required.
  • Vehicle or e-bike information where relevant.
  • Updated contact details.
  • Any safety-related information requested by WE-COLLECT.

9. Reporting Safety Concerns.

Customers, businesses, couriers and members of the public can report safety concerns to WE-COLLECT.

Reports may include unsafe riding, unsafe driving, damaged food, poor conduct, suspected illegal vehicle use or any behaviour that could put people at risk.

10. Breach Of The Safety Code.

If a courier breaches this Safety Code, WE-COLLECT may review the issue and take appropriate action.

  • Warning or guidance.
  • Temporary restriction from courier work.
  • Removal from the courier platform or approved courier list.
  • Referral to the relevant authority where legally required.

Serious safety breaches may result in immediate removal.
